Bet Hero Founder Juan Explains How One of the Best Value Betting Tools Was Built

In Episode 104, I chatted with Juan, founder of Bet Hero, the value betting platform recently reviewed and recommended in SBC Magazine 164.

Learn more about that review here and how you can save up to €215.80 on Bet Hero with the exclusive SBC member discount before the end of June 2026

Juan explains how his journey into betting began not through gambling, but by identifying inefficiencies in other markets. From building software to profit from sneaker releases, GPUs and collectibles, his background in computer science and automation naturally led him into arbitrage and eventually value betting.

The discussion explores the difference between arbitrage and value betting, why expected value is the foundation of long term success, and how Bet Hero evolved from a simple Discord alert bot into a platform covering more than 400 sportsbooks worldwide.

Pete and Juan analyse SBC’s review of 16,488 bets producing a 4.06% ROI, explaining why ROI alone can be misleading, the importance of closing line value, and how successful users maximise returns through volume, discipline and focusing on EV rather than short term results.

Finally, Juan discusses Bet Hero’s unique pricing model using multiple sharp sources, alongside Kelly staking, middling, and the ongoing battle to stay ahead of increasingly sophisticated bookmakers.

?Your Betting Journey: Making Profits Without ‘Soft’ Bookmaker Accounts?

Here at the SBC we are putting an increased emphasis on proofing and working with tipsters who provide services that don’t rely on soft bookmaker accounts.

Why? Account restrictions, limits on bigger staking and a general unwillingness from bookmakers to take bets that turn out to be value mean that eventually, the only way to continue value betting legitimately is to migrate away from the soft books.

SBC #150: A Prime Example

SBC Magazine Issue #150 provided an example of this as we reviewed an excellent new service that advises horse racing bets on betting exchanges.

This is a service for those at stages 3, 4 or 5 of their betting journey as this isn’t as simple as seeing ‘1pt each-way at 16/1‘ and placing a bet, but involves playing into the pre-race markets on exchanges or using software such as BF Bot Manager to get on at value prices when liquidity is at its deepest.

Here are a few snapshots from our review, where we looked at profitability for the service over a 21-month, 4,880 bet sample:

A deep analysis is needed to proof and review a service like this and this is what we commit to, with many services not making the review stage after we find fatal flaws or issues with usability.

What is produced helps the reader to understand:

  1. How a service works
  2. What is needed in terms of time or account access to make it worthwhile
  3. The required bankroll to cover subscription costs (and leave plenty of profit!)
  4. What drawdowns can be expected and how volatile a service is
  5. Other FAQs that are relevant to the market (or the service in particular)

Ultimately, all of this helps SBC Members to answer the question ‘Is this service for me?’.

Other Examples

In amongst some of the services we work closely with are other examples where the need for bookmaker access isn’t a necessity:

  • Demetrio Giotti, the European basketball expert, recommends bets with Pinnacle and selections are only released when there is $1,000 liquidity available to get bets on
  • PGA Profit and Weekly Golf Value are two golf services that have excellent records on exchanges
  • Kieran Ward’s The Value Machine is a horse racing system that SBC Members have used to make excellent exchange profits backing at value prices

In our SBC Members’ Area, we have a dedicated section for bettors who are restricted to exchanges and sharp bookmakers, with detailed analysis of services that are suitable for them.

13 racing tipsters, 8 golf tipsters, 6 football tipsters and 7 tipsters from other sports such as tennis, basketball and darts are all inside, providing plenty of options!
