Racing Re-cap: Mehdi Holds On At 12/1

In this regular Monday segment, racing expert Scott Armstrong of The Sportsman service, rounds up all the action of note from this weekend’s racing.

Scott had a day to remember on Saturday after successfully advising a lay of Poet’s Voice in the Celebration Mile and highlighting the 12/1 winner Mehdi at Newmarket.

Dubawi Gold scooped the £57,000 pot when winning the Celebration Mile at Goodwood. The official winning distance was half a length though in truth he could have won by a lot further. Richard Hannon’s three-year old colt was given a supremely confident ride by the ever classy Richard Hughes, being allowed to settle at the rear of the field before quickening impressively to seal the race. Connections are looking at a Group 1 race for Dubawi Gold with the Prix Du Moulin looking the favoured option or possibly the QEII. I would be surprised if he proved good enough to land either of them. Excelebration hammered Dubawi Gold by over seven lengths in the aforementioned Hungerford Stakes and the Prix Du Moulin looks his for the taking on September 11th. Continue reading

The Transfer Insider: 5 Days That Could Change Your Season

In this period of transfer market cat and mouse is it too soon to press the button? That is the question facing punters this week as they survey an interesting looking relegation market with a couple of vulnerable big priced runners who may well be very active this week.

QPR have money burning a hole in their pocket but can they bring in enough quality players before the deadline passes? Joey Barton is just one player mulling this over, but who else is Warnock looking to sign? Blackburn also desperately need new faces after failing to convince the likes of Ronaldinho, Beckham and Raul to move to Lancashire, so is the 17/10 on them to go down a worthwhile punt?

At the top end of the table,  Man City’s bloated squad needs chopping down with the likes of Tevez, Boyata, Onuoha and Bellamy all on the move – but to where? Arsenal also desperately need to strengthen and transfer guru Ed, has all the latest on them plus all the key transfer moves – vital for your betting in the Premier League. Continue reading

A Racing System To Make Your Bank Blossom…

Good Racing Systems Don’t Grow On Trees…But We Know One That Will Make Your Bank Blossom

If you have spent more than 5 minutes checking out some of the racing systems that are available on the internet, you will probably know many of them are not worth the paper they are written on!

Indeed, via our role here at the Smart Betting Club as betting product reviewers, this is never more obvious than when we report on some of the rubbish systems, which we warn our members to avoid.

You would certainly be right to assume that good racing systems don’t grow on trees…but there is one exception to the general rule, which we are proud to endorse ourselves. Continue reading

Racing Re-cap: Three Horses To Follow From The Weekend

In this regular Monday segment, SBC racing expert Scott Armstrong of The Sportsman service rounds up all the action of note from the weekend’s racing.

This week Scott unpacks the winners from York and Sandown and highlights three horses who have caught the eye and should be followed in coming months.

Moyenne Corniche was the fancy priced 25-1 winner of the Ebor Handicap on Saturday prevailing by a length when bravely staving off a group of horses who all held chances inside the final furlong. Trainer Brian Ellison was supremely confident of his fellow runner Saptapadi winning the race when making a Saturday morning television appearance though also stated Moyenne Corniche would assuredly finish in the first four.

The unlucky horse in the race was in-form Michael Bells Continue reading

The Transfer Insider: Wenger To Leave at 7/2?

Another week, another column and finally one of these transfer sagas has been resolved but that may not be the end of the drama at The Emirates. Will time also be called on Arsene Wenger before the season ends? Certainly Victor Chandler are taking a risk with their view that the Frenchman’s tenure is secure.  Wenger is 7/2 (4.5) to be gone by the final day of the season with them. Continue reading

Will it be betting bliss in the Ebor Handicap?

Welcome to our latest column from Scott Armstrong of The Sportsman tipster service.

Each Friday, Scott will be provide us with a rundown of all the best weekend racing action – all the key  horses to follow and those to oppose. You can also find a recap from him each Monday on the SBC Blog with his reaction to the weekend’s events. Thorough, frank and not afraid to take a contrary view Scott Armstrong is a racing man whose opinion you can’t afford to be without.

Scott is a relatively new addition to the SBC family but is already proving a popular addition. In last Friday’s column he highlighted Excelebration at 11/4 who duly obliged for followers at Newbury. This week Scott dons his deerstalker and pipe in an attempt to solve the conundrum that is Saturday’s flagship race at York – the Ebor Handicap.

Scott’s suggestion, as you’ll see below is to follow a master trainer who has a fantastic record with four and five yr olds at York. He has a 12/1 shot lined up for York Continue reading
