Each month in his SBC magazine column, racing guru and tipster par excellence Scott Armstrong, runs the rule over some of the coming big feature races to pass on his best betting advice, strategies and tips
As a sample, we have Scott’s take on one of Glorious Goodwood’s trickiest races – the Stewards Cup and his 16/1 advised tip against the field to share with you. It was originally supplied to SBC members as part of Issue #74 (released the 23rd July).

Glorious Goodwood Racing Tips
The final day of Glorious Goodwood brings the cavalry charge of the 6f Stewards Cup where up to twenty-eight runners stretch across the track at breakneck speed. It’s a nightmare for punters to solve with only four favourites winning in the last quarter of a century.
Stats-wise you are seeking a horse in good form, having won or hit the frame in their last run which should have been within the time-scale of a month. 12 of the last 14 winners of the Stewards Cup fit that criteria.
When triumphing last year, Mick Easterby’s Hoof It carried a record 10st to win and has been burdened with a further 4lb’s this term. It’s difficult to see him carrying that weight to success and he arrives with no form in the book this season.
The owner’s of Alben Star believe there is a big handicap win in their horse be it this year or next. I think punters should have belief he can land a big one before the end of the season and he is the each-way selection at odds of 16-1 with Ladbrokes.
Alben Star was Richard Fahey’s best two-year old, winning two of his three starts. A bull of a horse he picked up an injury which ruled out any races as a three-year old and somewhat strangely he was to be found running on the all-weather tracks over the Winter. This was simply an effort to get his confidence up and the horse has also learned to settle having been a tad too free-going as a juvenile. Seven furlongs may yet prove his optimum distance but a big field and strongly run race looks sure to bring the best out in him. If the ground turns too soft then it would lead to a reduction in confidence but 16-1 is value for a horse who has still to reach the ceiling of his ability.
