Our very latest Horse Racing betting magazine is released today and one of the highlights from this month is our exclusive look at a relatively unknown branch of racing analysis called ‘dosage theory’.
What this effectively boils down to is examining a horse’s bloodline so we can get a very good sense of the probable speed and stamina capabilities it possesses. By then applying a numerical rating to each horse, we can then help apply this to our betting and hunt down the best value bets in any given race.
Its a method popular in the US, and in the article we interview one dosage expert, Ben Aitken of Narrow The Field, who has since applied it to UK racing with great success and find out just how he makes it work.
To give a recent example, Ben highlighted Fame and Glory in the Ascot Gold Cup, which despite being heavily backed, still had question marks from a large number of people questioning whether or not he would stay the distance. After taking a quick look at the horses Dosage figures, it was clear he had a very high probability of staying the trip, in fact Ben had him pegged as a ‘cup’ horse after he ran in his first Arc de Triomphe in 2009.
This is just one example of the success Ben has been having by applying his unique dosage ratings alongside additional trainer, jockey and general trends. At Royal Ascot for example he gave nineteen consecutive successful lay bets at the meeting. Indeed these dosage ratings don’t only tell you what to bet upon, but also what to not bet on – or lay!
I must be honest, I knew little about dosage theory beforehand but by following someone like Ben (who does) its clear there is money to be made following such experts. Its an area of racing analysis which I expect to become more and more popular.
You can read all about Ben’s methods, his service and how you can benefit from his dosage ratings in our latest magazine, out later today (Friday the 8th July).
