An Introduction to Using Cryptocurrency for Online Betting & Exploring Bet105

In SBC Magazine Issue 148 (January), we took an in-depth look at Bet105, an emerging crypto-based bookmaker, on behalf of SBC members.

Today, I want to dive deeper into what makes Bet105 so intriguing and the growing role of cryptocurrency in betting.

First of all, if you’re curious about how to get started with crypto for betting, I’ve put together a brand-new step-by-step guide that is freely available for everybody to read on the SBC website.

This guide walks you through everything from purchasing crypto to making smooth deposits and withdrawals – all from a betting perspective. There are several advantages to using it when compared to regular currency – all of which is explained in the article.

Exploring Bet105

One firm that only accepts crypto for betting is Bet105, an up-and-coming firm which is classified as an offshore bookmaker – one that operates outside of traditional regulation.

Offshore bookmakers aren’t new. Well-established names like BetOnline and Betcris/Bookmaker have built strong reputations by offering competitive odds and welcoming sharp bettors. They also differentiate themselves from traditional markets by focusing on cryptocurrencies for deposits and withdrawals due to the aforementioned advantages vs. fiat currencies (i.e. £, $ and €)

While Bet105 share these characteristics, what sets them apart is their willingness to accept players from regions where many competitors do not, including the UK and other parts of Europe. They put the onus on you as the individual to understand the rules and legality of betting from where you are based.

Those behind Bet105 are respected figures in the betting industry, with several well-known professional bettors publicly endorsing them in recent months.

Review & Guide Based On Real Life Usage

Given the interest in them, we put together a comprehensive review and walkthrough guide – based on six months of firsthand betting experience on the platform.

This exclusive SBC Member resource covers everything from what markets they offer, the competitiveness of their pricing and the pros and cons of betting with offshore bookmakers.

This last point is important as there are both risks and rewards that need to be addressed when considering an offshore bookmaker. We discuss all of this in great detail because there is a lot of interest in firms like Bet105 and it would be remiss of us to just pretend that our members (and bettors in general) aren’t weighing up all of these options with very little independent guidance to help them.

Horror stories (such as this one from Luke Paton) show the pitfalls of using unregulated books and how it can all go wrong. We want to ensure that if people do choose to use these operators, they have information to help them make the best choices.

Bet105 is the 2nd ‘Offshore bookmaker’ review that has been published for SBC members with a third site review (again another offshore bookmaker open to UK customers) scheduled for February.

Below you can see an example of some of the emails received recently asking us to look at Bet105

Why People Are Interested In These Firms

This weekend’s betting markets provide a good opportunity to showcase why offshore bookmakers like Bet105 appeal to bettors.

Their overround (sometimes also known as vig, juice or margin – effectively their inbuilt edge) which is already very competitive, has been reduced even further for the Superbowl this Sunday.

So, you can take the Chiefs -1 at 2.01 or the Eagles +1 at 1.952, which are stand-out prices in the market and at the very least offer trading or arbing opportunities

This is how they compare to Betfair (after 2% commission) and Pinnacle:

Value like this is why they are proving to be so popular with bettors and why we are fielding so many questions about them.

Bet105 also have boosted odds this weekend in the FA Cup as well as La Liga – very often where they are best or joint best-priced with the likes of Pinnacle and the Betfair Exchange.

So if interested in learning more about not only Bet105 but other options in terms of Offshore Bookmakers and Bet Brokers, then be sure to check out the reviews and guides now available with an SBC Membership.

For those of you interested in regulated bookmakers, we also have extensive guides including our ‘Major Bookmakers’ guide, which features a rundown on 72 licensed firms you can use.

After all life betting doesn’t just begin and end with Bet365 or Skybet. There are many, many options available to smart bettors these days and SBC is here to help you educate, inform and explain who and where they are!

Disclaimer: Please note that signing-up with and betting with Bet105 (or any other Offshore Bookmakers) does not constitute an official SBC recommendation.

It is important that you understand all of the risks that Offshore Bookmakers present, including whether or not such services are legally available in the country you reside in.

Each country and jurisdiction has different rules and regulations on how they are viewed and as SBC readers come from all around the world, ascertaining suitability and legality needs to be judged by each of you on an individual basis.

New @ SBC: Video Guides To Offshore Bookmakers & Crypto Betting Insight

As part of our increased focus on exploring alternative places where you can bet, we have added some new features to the SBC members’ area of the website to make you aware of.

These are as follows:

  1. New Offshore Bookmakers Guide
  2. BetOnline Exploration & Interview With Paul Krishnamurty (odds compiler)
  3. Crypto & Betting Video Guide and Tutorial

Each of these new resources are available to explore now with an SBC membership.

1. Offshore Bookmakers Guide

Firstly, we have added a new section dedicated to ‘Offshore Bookmakers’ to help explain their popularity, how they work, why they welcome winners and the pros and cons of using them.

In general, these firms appeal to those who are at Stages 4 and 5 of their Betting Journey and who have been limited by ‘Soft Bookmakers’ (such as Bet365, Draftkings or Bet Victor).

In recent months we have received several questions regarding offshore firms, so this new section is designed to give you all the facts about them. We will be adding regularly to this section with explorations of some of the different offshore options available currently.

2. BetOnline Exploration & Interview With Paul Krishnamurty (odds compiler)

The first Offshore bookmaker we have taken a deep look at is the the long-running firm BetOnline.

In operation for the past 25 years, BetOnline does not directly operate under the same model as Pinnacle, but there are certain similarities in how the two sportsbooks handle betting markets, odds, and the overall user experience.

Most importantly of all – they welcome winners and allows bets at large stakes in most popular markets across sports such as Soccer, Golf, Cricket, Tennis, American Sports and even others like Politics.

To explain more about BetOnline, we have put together two videos:

Video 1 is a walkthrough guide with SBC Editor, Pete, who shows how BetOnline works using his own account and experience of using them.

We also have recently added a second video which features an exclusive SBC member chat with Paul Krishnamurty about the BetOnline service.

Paul is ideally placed to talk about BetOnline as he has worked there since 2021 as an odds compiler on markets such as Politics, Golf and Cricket.

Recording this video ahead of the huge 2024 US Election market, Paul explains the markets he offers alongside more insight into BetOnline and why it welcomes winners, high stakers and large volume!

SBC’s new guide to crypto !

3. Crypto & Betting Video Guide and Tutorial

Today we have also added another new much-requested video – this time on the topic of using crypto currency from a betting perspective.

Crypto is never far from the news at the moment and to discuss its usage in betting circles, I was joined by my recent podcast guest – Pisky to explore the topic for SBC members in a special new video guide.

Pisky is perfectly positioned as an expert on this topic, given his deep knowledge of both crypto and betting and extensive use of it himself personally.

In this chat, we discuss everything from getting started to buying crypto, how to keep it safe and also how to deposit/withdraw and why it’s so much easier, cheaper and faster than fiat currency.
