If you are anything like me, then chances are you first started betting as a bit of fun. Perhaps by backing your favourite sports team or having a bet in the Grand National at work.
I started off as a teenager by doing the pools with my gambling-happy Granny, helping her to select the best football bets every Saturday morning with a bacon butty and a cup of tea. Once I was old enough to bet myself, I then started doing weekly accas at the local bookies. Most of the time they lost (and always seemed to be just 1 result that let me down!) but when they did win it was fantastically rewarding…and it hooked me to find out more.
I got a major kick from backing my own judgement, taking on the bookie and felt a real sense of achievement when I got it right and made some cold hard cash!
This was all very well and good…apart from just 1 problem. I didn’t get it right often enough and I quickly found that I was losing money regularly from my betting. Losing money week in week out just wasn’t fun anymore and more importantly, wasn’t sustainable.
Needed To Make My Betting More Professional
I quickly realised that if I wanted to change this, I needed to learn everything I could about the industry and go from ‘fun betting’ to ‘pro betting’.
Thankfully I learnt by my early mistakes and now on the back of my own success betting, over the past 7 years I have been able to set-up and grow the Smart Betting Club as a way of helping others like me ‘graduate’ from betting for fun…to betting for money.
If you are in a similar position and keen to take your betting up a notch or ten, I have put together my 5 Easy Steps on going from Fun Betting to Pro Betting…
1) Follow Professional Tipsters
My Eureka moment, was when it quickly dawned on me that I wasn’t very good at picking out winning bets. I needed expert help and that is when I started investigated professional tipsters.
It was by following the very best of these that I was able to make a genuine full-time profit from my own betting – even doing so well that I could afford to employ somebody to place my bets for me (sounds glamorous, but it allowed me to focus on helping others through my SBC work)
It’s a fact that there are numerous genuine, expert tipsters out there if you know where to look. Many of them don’t’ advertise, but find members through word of mouth or these days – our SBC reviews and ratings.
2) Follow A Proven Betting System
The only thing better than a professional tipster – is a really good betting system, because often they are available for a one-off fee and you can use them to pick out the best bets yourself.
The only problem I initially found was that good betting systems were like rocking horse dung! I found literally hundreds of scam systems that prey on the vulnerable and all with unproven pie-in-the-sky claims.
Gradually though I began to wade through the rubbish and find some really good proven systems – often by working with other pro gamblers to develop them. It’s what we did for the 3 very profitable systems we developed as part of our Secret Betting System Guide (free to all new SBC members).
3) Set Up Your Staking Properly
Probably the number one reason that gamblers lose money (aside from poor quality bets) is by not setting up their staking properly.
It’s a key ingredient of betting successfully to work to a rigid staking plan and utilise a fixed betting bank that can help you maximise your income. Every successful pro tipster and gambler I know works to a staking plan that governs how much they risk on each bet they place.
4) Expect To Lose Money Betting Sometimes
My first few months of following tipsters went very well, but I received a major shock when one of my top guys went on a really bad losing run. After 3 months of consecutive profits, this run knocked out 60% of what I had made with him in just a few weeks and I couldn’t see where the next winner was coming from.
Upon his advice I stood firm and rode it out…which was just as well, because not long after he hit a series of winners and was quickly back on track.
It was a valuable lesson as I realised quickly that when betting I will have periods when I lose money and not just win. As long as I had the right staking plan and a realistic attitude, then I would be fine.
5) Share With Others – Make Yourself Accountable
One of the best decisions I made was to bet in conjunction with a pro gambler friend of mine, who not only guided me with how much time and money I could invest, but also acted as a way of keeping me on track.
I couldn’t simply pull the plug on any tipster or up my stakes on a whim, without consulting him first. It ensured I made no rash decisions and approached my betting seriously – discussing every major decision with him.
It’s why I highly recommend you share your betting with someone you trust – perhaps your husband or wife, close friend or a work colleague. Even if they are not betting themselves, if you know you have to justify every decision to them, then you will be focused.
You can even bring them in as part of your ‘pro betting quest’. One gambler I spoke to this week does this with his wife, as his betting contributes to their holiday fund. After a profitable period lately, he tells me they have booked a trip to Barbados! Not bad work if you can get it.
