GOLF: Winner landed, but a mere inch away from a huge return!

First of all, a big “Well done!” to PGA Profit who tipped up USPGA play-off winner, Justin Thomas at 16/1.  Unusually, the tip was to back Thomas win only, and that strategy clearly paid off.  By beating Zalatoris on the third hold of the play-off, the return from Thomas pulled PGA Profit into profit and a high water mark for the year.  Well done them!

However, it looked like we were on for a big win for Weekly Golf Value who had a decent stake (because of the level of perceived value in the 150/1 pre-tournament price) on Mito Pereira.  On the 17th, his ball stopped literally an inch short of the hold on his putt for a birdie.  Had it gone in, Pereira would have been two shots clear with just the one hole to play, and I feel strongly that what happened next wouldn’t have had he had that breathing space.

As it was, Pereira drove off the last tee just one shot clear, and stuck his ball into a brook.  That clearly shook him, and from a human point of view, watching the inevitable breakdown didn’t make for comfortable viewing.  I really felt for the lad.  I’ve got to admit, I was also cursing him for messing up and denying me a big return, but yeah, I really felt for him.  Hopefully he’ll bounce back better for the experience.

Still a profitable week for WGV with a second player finding the frame.

Elsewhere Golf Insider showed a small loss on the bets I placed.  There were a couple of picks issued that I didn’t get on in different markets and had I done so I would have netted an overall profit.  As it was, I showed a small loss.

The play-off nerves were somewhat calmed by the fact that Tour Tips had Zalatoris at 30.1 so I was guaranteed a profit whichever player emerged triumphant.

Sadly, the poor run of The Rainmaker continues and despite Ben Coley tipping up Tommy Fleetwood who placed at 80/1, he also produced a loss (albeit a small one, and like Golf Insider, I believe his other tips generated a profit on the week).
