RACING: After the Lord Mayor’s show.

I guess after the previous weekend’s complete and utter, absolute, bloomin’ magnificent, never-seen-before, “unbelievable Jeff” heroic heroics from Northern Monkey, this week was likely to be a bit of a come down.  And it was.

Looking at it in isolation, dropping 15 points in a week is pretty poor.  Come on Wayne.  Pull your socks up.  You’re only as good as your last winner! 🙂

Elsewhere and Bet Alchemist dropped a couple of points, and Precision Value gained a couple (well, four, to be precise).  The latter is welcome as it stops the recent rot, but there’s a lot of work to do to make 2021 a decent year for the service.

Bet Alchemist (100pt bank): Staked 348pts, +43.267pts, roi 12.43%, roc 43.26%, High: 55.38pts, CDD: -12.113pts, Max DD: -25.65pts.

SPORTS: The Poacher leads the profit charge.

It’s been a decent week for the sports portfolio with the strong recent form of The Poacher continuing.  The football service saw over 10% bank growth (ROC) over the week and the weekend was particularly lucrative with five points profit being made from the bets issued.  In total, eight selections were provided over the course of Saturday and Sunday, and with seven winners and one bet returning the stake, it was happy days indeed.  The service has broken through to a new profit high for the year and at this moment in time, all is rosy in The Poacher garden.

There was a little bit of action for Sports Service 1 too and a couple of winners at decent odds did the trick.  We know turnover is slow, but the ytd shows an ROI of 21.9% so far, which is very impressive.  As the nights start to draw in and the daily average temperature taking a turn for the worse, it is clear that winter is around the corner and I can’t help but think of the World Championships that take place over the Christmas period.  With crowds back this year it should be quite the spectacle, and I hope SS1 can maintain its fine form until then.

A disappointing week for Scottish Football Income Booster and another dropped point or so.  It’s a service that needs a change of fortune.

So after a decent week the overall Sports portfolio is lying at just a little below the ytd high profit point.  Another good week and we’ll be breaking through that particular ceiling.

Sports Service 1 (30pt bank): Staked 28.75pts, +6.302pts, roi 21.92%, roc 21%, High: 7.295pts, CDD: -0.993pts, Max DD: -2.743pts.

GOLF: Nothing to see here.

A week off from golf betting with the Ryder Cup taking place Stateside.  Only Golf Insider put anything up but as regular readers of the Bet Diary will know, I stick to the standard tournament bets only.

As for the Ryder Cup itself, well less said about that the better!

Back next week for the next golf betting installment.

RACING: The best form I’ve ever seen from a tipster! Truly remarkable!

Across just Friday and Saturday last week, Northern Monkey achieved a profit that translated to a total bank growth of 108.82%.  Just think about that for a minute.  Two day’s racing.  The bank more than doubled.  That, is truly remarkable, incredible tipping, the likes of which quite frankly, I don’t think I’ve ever seen.

A number of big multiples were landed and if ever there is a show of reward for patience, then this must be it.  There have been a number of emails from Wayne over the last few months of the “so close yet so far” type when referencing these multiples.  Near misses, bad luck, and let’s face it, the betting Gods have conspired at times to frustrate, but by ‘eck it all came together last weekend.

I’m so pleased for Wayne.  And so sorry for the chap Wayne has mentioned that, with no ill feeling or poor grace, had decided to throw in the towel on the service not that long ago.  There but for the Grace of God go I.  In fact, I have gone there, managed to escape a punishment too severe, and then mended my ways.  If I’d missed out on a 100 point weekend, I think it may have taken more than a beer and a whiskey chaser to ease the pain.

As a result of NMP’s amazing success, the racing portfolio overtakes the golf as the leading profit provider this year to date.  The ROI is still a little lower; 22.4% plays 27.7%, but the ROC for racing is a touch larger (66.7% vs 53.1%).  On an individual tipster basis, NMP also jumps into the lead as the most profitable thus far.

Well done, Wayne!

SPORTS: Coming out of the slump thanks to The Poacher!

Last week I wrote about how the Sports portfolio had hit a new low in terms of drawdown for the year.  This week, and thanks to a good run of results from The Poacher, things are a little brighter.  The portfolio ROI has actually more than doubled, although admittedly from a very low base.

Two bets in a relatively minor tournament from SS1 as a very small loss means that their drawdown has deepened every so slightly, and another underwhelming week from Scottish Football Income Booster, so it too needs to bounce back from a new low point for the year.

As for The Poacher, an excellent Sunday provided a boost to the coffers.  Long may this good form continue.

Sports Service 1 (30pt bank): Staked 25.75pts, +4.552pts, roi 17.67%, roc 15.17%, High: 7.295pts, CDD: -2.743pts, Max DD: -2.743pts.

GOLF: What odds on the 1, 2, 3!?!

We’ve had a couple of 1-2s on the golf this year, but I think (and bear in mind I’m getting older, and my memory might well be starting to play tricks with me) that this weekend saw me back the first three home.

Whilst Weekly Golf Value will be cursing their luck with two of their selections in the States finishing 2nd and 3rd, PGA Profit will be gladly taking all the plaudits as Max Homa came out of a right old tussle on the final day on top.  I’m really pleased for PGA Profit  The guy who runs it comes across as being a really genuine bloke who obviously cares about the service he’s providing.  Golf betting can be cruel at times, and it can test the patience like no other sport, so when things go well, you’ve got to be chuffed for the good guys who put up the tips.

Of course when you back the first three home at big odds in a tournament, you can’t help but wonder what the “tricast” would have paid.  I’ve not worked it out, but I reckon I could have retired on it!  That’s never going to happen though.  Instead, I’ll satisfy myself that PGA Profit has hit a new profit high for the year to date for me, as has the golf portfolio as a whole.

Ryder Cup this week so nothing to bet on.  Should make for good viewing though.  C’mon Europe!

RACING: Northern Monkey joy unconfined!

Bang, bang!  Two weekends straight now that Northern Monkey has hit the heights with a big profit haul, banishing to the dim mists of time the memories of a summer which for the most part, was spent in what can only be described as the doldrums.

That is hard to believe now, after a very successful Doncaster St Leger meeting and the landing of a couple of very juicy multiple bets amongst a number of single bet returns too.  It’s amazing how quickly things can turn for those that persevere and ride out the bad times.  I’ve made the mistake of not doing so in the past, I know I have, and it is such an easy trap to fall into.  But not this time.  And the rewards for remaining strong-minded and keeping one’s resolve are clear.

Fantastic tipping from Wayne who must be feeling he can tip up a three legged goat with dodgy knees and it would give a good account of itself at the minute!

Bet Alchemist had a decent week too and has pushed up its profit high water mark for the year, although was a lot less spectacular in the way that it did it.  But that’s not anything to complain about!

On the reverse side of the coin lies Precision Value which, after a pretty terrible week, is now sitting on the deepest drawdown for the ytd.  Talk about ying and yang!  However, let’s not be gloomy.  The racing portfolio as a whole is riding a high at the moment and is sitting on it’s highest profit point for 2021.  That is something to celebrate.

SPORTS: Doom and gloom.

NOT, a good week for the Sports portfolio, and to be honest, I’m finding this sector of my betting pretty tough going at the moment.  Undoubtedly I’m going to have to take a long hard look at things for next year.  I know it’s only September, and we have a quarter of the year for things to turn around, but I feel as if I have failed to get the balance right and that is something that is going to need remedying.

At one stage last week it looked as if Sports Service 1 might have a wipe out from their bets with R. saying:

“Rough run we are on right now. Typical – finally get back after a long break and then hit a nasty losing run straight out the gate to drain enthusiasm!”

To be fair I’m still running at 20% ROI for the year although bank growth isn’t great, but I knew that was the nature of this service and therefore still feel positive about it and appreciate that the role it plays in the grand scheme of things is being fulfilled.

A poor week for Scottish Football Income Booster sees my current drawdown reach a new low point for the year.  I’m aware I missed a decent week recently, but I found this past weekend’s results disheartening, I must admit.  I said a few months ago that I needed to see a strong start to the new football season, and that hasn’t materialised.

A break even week for The Poacher.

GOLF: PGA Europe strikes gold!

Sometimes you make a decision and it takes time for that decision to pay off.  Sometimes you make a decision and it doesn’t pay off at all.  And just occasionally, very occasionally, you make a decision and it pays off handsomely almost straightaway.

The last of these scenarios is – thankfully – what has happened with my recent decision to start following PGA Profit Europe.  I started to put money down on the selections just two weeks ago, and so have supported the picks financially across a mere two tournaments, and after Billy Horschel won this weekend’s BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth (33/1), it’s fair to say things have gone swimmingly.  My ROI for the service so far (188.9%) says it all.

These ridiculously high levels won’t continue of course, and golf betting being what it is, that profit could easily dwindle away over the next few weeks, but let’s not think like that.  Let’s instead congratulate the tipster and look forward to backing more winners.  There are times when it really is best not to overthink or overanalyse things, and just enjoy the good times when they arrive.

With no PGA Tour event in the States this week, there was a week off of for PGA Profit, and only the one tournie for Golf Insider and Weekly Golf Value to target.  The former produced a solid profit as a result of finding two golfers who finished in the places, including 150/1 shot Jamie Donaldson.

Sadly, no returns at all for WGV.

RACING: A top weekend for Northern Monkey!

From last week’s BD post…

“As for the rest of the selections….. I don’t know what else we can do at the minute…….all ran well (again) but just didn’t win”.

A quote from Wayne, aka Northern Monkey Punter, August 31st 2021.

And from Monday’s NMP email:

“Overall it was a cracking weekend.”

How quickly things can change, and how sweet this past weekend must have been for Wayne (it certainly was for his followers!) as he netted over 40 points of profit over the two days.  40 points!

It really does highlight/underline/emphasise/stress just how important a role patience has to play if we want to make money from the bookies.  When you have a guy as experienced and as calm under pressure as Wayne, you need to stick with him (I’ve learnt that lesson).  As I said last week, we’d normally expect the midsummer months to be those through which we reaped Northern Monkey hay, but that’s not been the case this year.  This year we’ve had to wait until September for our splurge in profit, and it would have been easy to have lost a little hope.

Overall, I’m just pleased for Wayne himself.  He may be calm, rational and focused on the long term as any tipster must be, but I know he also so wants his members to do well.  Apparently he had a celebratory curry on Saturday night.  I hope it was a good one.  He deserves it.

Anyway, that brings NMP up to a high profit line year to date, and for the racing portfolio as a whole.
