Service Nuts & Bolts
Bet Timing: Bet release is usually the middle of the day Melbourne time, which will be between 1 and 3am UK time. There is no pressure to place bets and can be done all across the day of release
Bet Type & Bookmakers: All Australian racing will be settled at Betfair SP less commission (6% in Melbourne, 10% in Sydney).
Hong Kong Racing – Betfair do not operate in Hong Kong and bets are settled at the Tote SP. Bookmakers do not usually price up until a few hours before the off, though Tote prices will be available at most bookmakers.
Number of Bets: About 200 bets per month, though June to August are slightly quieter months in the Australian winter. Hong Kong has a season break each August each year, and selections are reduced during the first few weeks of a new season whilst form develops.
Staking: Staking is WIN Only and will be advised at 1, 2 or 3 point stakes. The average stake on all bets is 1.4. It is possible that there are several selections in some races with the stronger bets advised at higher stakes. Given some higher odds, members can back longer shots EW, though not officially advised. Where there are several selections in a race, there is an opportunity to place small stakes on trifectas, first fours etc, though again they are not part of the official advice.
Betting Banks: A 300 point betting bank is advised due to the 1 to 3 point staking and the average odds of just over 20. The expected losing run to level stakes is around 70 bets.
