GOLF: Small adjustment as we go close again.

Not quite a winner over on the US PGA Tour this weekend but we weren’t a long way away from another Sunday evening to remember with Jordan Speith (tipped at 30/1 by PGA Profit) going into the final round just two shots off the lead.  It wasn’t to be though, and Speith finished five shots behind in a share of fourth place to land an each way return.  PGA Profit more or less broke even on the tournament with Jason Kokrak grabbing a share of 8th.  As it happens I missed the price on Kokrak and so for the each way part of the recommended bet I split the stake between the Top 5 and Top 10 markets on the Exchanges, a strategy suggested as one to consider by the SBC.

I hinted last week at an adjustment I was going to make with regard to how I follow Weekly Golf Value.  Basically, I’ve doubled the bank size from 1,000 points to 2,000.  I just didn’t feel comfortable with between 12.5 and 15% of the bank being staked on each tournament.  I am very risk averse and it’s become vital to me to ensure I feel “comfortable” with my betting at all times.  Of course, the knock on effect is on the ROC numbers generated, which is why, despite making a small profit this week, the ROC figure has dropped both in relation to WGV itself and the golf portfolio as a whole (see below).  It is up to the individual to decide how much risk they wish to carry. I’m not saying you should increase your WGV bank if you are following.  That is a decision only you should make, and please bear in mind that WGV themselves run from a 1,000 point bank.

This week, WGV came out slightly on top by having tipped Christiaan Bezuidenhout (no easier to say his name than it is to type it!) who finished 7th at 66/1 and again, Jason Kokrak.

Finally, Golf Insider also had one finish in the frame.  No surprises for guessing who.  Yup, Jason Kokrak.  Imagine if he’d been a winner.  You’d not have heard from me for a while.  I’d be too busy sipping pina coladas somewhere nice and warm.
